Telecom Edge Computing

A regional telecom operator needed to bring low-latency processing closer to subscribers across dispersed rural and urban sites. MEAICON designed and deployed edge computing infrastructure with remote management and security monitoring.

The challenge

What the client needed

A regional telecom operator serving subscribers across both dense urban centres and widely dispersed rural areas was seeing growing demand for low-latency applications — video streaming, IoT processing and real-time analytics. Routing all traffic back to a central data centre was adding round-trip latency that degraded subscriber experience, particularly in remote regions.

The operator needed edge computing sites distributed across its coverage area, but each site had to be manageable remotely with minimal on-site staff. Security was also a concern: edge sites in remote locations are physically vulnerable, and the processing workloads running on them needed protection against tampering and unauthorised access.

Our approach

How we engaged

MEAICON started by mapping the operator's subscriber distribution and latency hotspots, identifying the optimal edge site locations based on traffic patterns and fibre proximity. We then designed a standardised edge site blueprint — compute, storage, networking and security — that could be replicated across all locations.

The remote management and security design was developed alongside the hardware blueprint, ensuring every edge site could be monitored, patched and secured from a central operations centre without dispatching technicians.

  • Subscriber traffic analysis and edge site location optimisation
  • Standardised edge site hardware blueprint and deployment plan
  • Remote management platform with centralised monitoring and patching
  • Edge security design with physical tamper detection and network segmentation

The solution

What we delivered

The deployed edge infrastructure consists of standardised computing sites distributed across the operator's coverage area, each running workloads locally to serve nearby subscribers with minimal latency. Video streaming, IoT data processing and real-time analytics now execute at the edge rather than round-tripping to the central data centre.

A central remote management platform gives the operations team visibility and control over every edge site — health monitoring, workload orchestration, patching and security event logging — without on-site visits. Each site is physically secured with tamper detection and logically segmented so that a compromise at one site cannot propagate to others.
